Creating a Project

Two minutes from "I want a new project" to "I'm chatting in it."

Step-by-step

  1. Open History in the top bar — projects sit above the conversation list (the term may differ in your chassis — see What is a Project? for the table)
  2. Click + New Project (top of the project list)
  3. Fill in:
    • Name — short, recognizable (e.g. "Q4 earnings", "patient JS", "Vietnam trip 2026")
    • Description (optional) — anything you want to remember
    • Color + Icon — visual marker for the project list
    • Starter template (optional) — pre-fills the system prompt
    • Preferred model (optional) — pin a model for all chats in this project
  4. Click Create

You're dropped into the new project's empty conversation list. Type into the chat input and your first message starts a project-scoped conversation.

Editing afterwards

Click the project in the list, then click the gear icon in the project header. You can change:

  • Name, description, color, icon
  • System prompt (full editing)
  • Preferred model
  • Starter template (does NOT re-apply — only the system prompt is editable from here)

Saved changes apply to future messages in the project. Existing messages are not retroactively re-prompted.

Picking a starter template

The template list shows only templates for your current chassis. If you want a Courtroom template, switch to Courtroom first, then create the project there.

You can preview each template's system prompt before applying:

  • Click a template name → preview pane shows the prompt text
  • Click Use this template → fills the system prompt field
  • Edit the filled-in text however you want before saving

If none of the templates fit, pick Blank and write your own.

What happens to conversations created BEFORE the project

Existing conversations don't auto-join a new project. You can move them in:

  • Drag-drop: grab a conversation row from the conversation list, drop it on the project row in the project list. The conversation moves into the project.
  • Per-row menu: right-click (or long-press on mobile) the conversation → Move to project → pick the project

Moved conversations DO inherit the project's system prompt for future messages, but the prior messages stay as they were.

Deleting a project

Project header → gear icon → Delete project. Confirmation required.

What happens:

  • The project itself is deleted
  • Conversations in the project become un-projected (NOT deleted) — they go back to the main conversation list
  • Artifacts in the project become un-projected — back to the main artifact vault
  • The project's system prompt is gone forever; if you wanted to keep a copy, copy it to your clipboard first

Common patterns

  • Personal vs work: 2 projects, different system prompts. Switch context with one click.
  • Per-client: each client gets a project; system prompt has the client's name + key context. New conversations auto-pick up the right framing.
  • Per-paper / per-research-question: makes follow-up easier; memory recall biases toward this project's conversations.
  • Per-chassis: if you use different chassis for different work modes, projects naturally cluster by chassis since templates are chassis-specific.
