Free Mode

You can chat on Nyquest at $0 — no wallet balance required. Free mode is how anonymous visitors and accounts with an empty wallet get served.

Who gets free mode

  • Anonymous users — chatting without an account
  • Signed-in users with a $0 wallet balance

Everyone else routes normally through the full catalog. The moment you add funds (or set up BYOK), you leave free mode automatically.

What actually happens

Free-mode messages are routed to a curated chain of genuinely free catalog models — a primary plus fallbacks, deliberately spread across different upstream providers so one provider's outage doesn't take the chain down.

The chain is self-healing. Every six hours the platform probes every free model in the catalog with a real chat-sized request and verifies it returns actual content — not just a 200 status. Models that stop serving drop out of the chain; models that recover are automatically restored. Reasoning-style models that burn their whole token budget "thinking" and return an empty reply are excluded — an empty answer counts as a failure, and the router advances down the chain rather than showing you a blank message.

Responses served in free mode carry a routed-as-free marker and cost you (and your wallet, if you have one) nothing.

Limits

  • Model choice — you get the free chain, not the catalog. Model pinning and premium models need a funded wallet or BYOK.
  • Availability — free upstream capacity is rate-limited industry-wide. If every model in the chain is saturated, you'll get a clear "temporarily at capacity" message with an upgrade path rather than a hung request.
  • No Splicer — multi-model consensus is Pro and up. See Multi-Model Splicer.

Leaving free mode

Two ways, both instant:

  1. Fund your walletadd credits and every message routes through the full 300+ model catalog with live per-token pricing.
  2. Bring your own keyBYOK is always free of platform charges and unlocks the models your provider key can reach. Works even without an account.
